#TBRTakedown 4.0 // Read-A-Thons

Since I have been absent for way too long, I thought the announcement of a read-a-thon I will be participating in, would be fun! πŸ˜€

I have been fond of Shannon over at leaninglights on Youtube (my posts for the past read-a-thons can be found here, here and here).

This time around the read-a-thon starts today, on Monday and ends on Sunday (20th – 26th). The announcement video as well as the challenges be found here. As always I am very excited to participate in a read-a-thon, especially after kind of a slumpy reading phase I did have the last couple of months.

IMG_44961. TBR over a year – Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson
I have bought all of the available books by Morgan Matson last year or the year before that and I wanted to read all of them during the summer time. Of course that never happened. This year I’m all for it, though, and I’m quite excited to read more of her work!

2. Sequel – The Princess Diaries: Give Me Five by Meg Cabot
I have been loving this series so far and I’ve only read book four at the beginning of the year. Now it’s really time to continue to laugh and read!

3. First book in a series – The Wrath & the Dawn by RenΓ©e Ahdieh
I have bought this book almost immediately as it was released. I was so intrigued by the premise; I loved the 1001 Nights stories as a child and I couldn’t pass up this retelling. Now that the second and last book in the series is out, I am ready to dive into this world!

4. Out of comfort zone – Bright Minds, Empty Souls by Jennae Cecelia
I love poetry, unfortunately I don’t read enough of it. Like, at all. It does seem a bit intimidating, but I’m all for it and I hope to enjoy it!

5. Most recent book haul – Summer Days & Summer Nights edited by Stephanie Perkins
I have already loved this collection of twelve Christmas love stories. Now there is a new collection out for the summer and I just had to have it. I’d like to get into the summery mood and this book seems like the perfect fit!

I am off work today and tomorrow as I got my remaining wisdom teeth removed just an hour ago, so we’ll see how much I’ll manage to read in the next few days. Also, I have to work from Wednesday to Friday. I hope to read ALL OF THE BOOKS until Sunday.

As always, I will be posting my wrap-up by the end of the read-a-thon.

Until next time: happy reading! πŸ™‚

Blogging and reading. // Updates

tumblr_nub9e4cRRV1s8as3do1_500

I know I was absent for almost two months. That’s also about the time I wasn’t reading at all. I simply didn’t feel like it and there’s no talking around it or apologizing for it. I’ve been gone for quite some time and now I am back. Let’s focus on that πŸ˜€

Also, I will be on vacation next week. That gives me time to plan and organize a few things and maybe I will be able to structure the blog a little bit more, so that there will be no gaps as big as this one when I hit another reading/blogging slump.

I have planned quite a few posts so far. Now I just need to put those plans to paper, or rather keyboard πŸ˜‰

Until next time: happy reading! πŸ™‚

Top Ten Books I’ve Recently Added To My TBR // Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

Today’s theme is Ten Books I’ve Recently Added To My TBR. Here are the last ten books that I have added to my Goodreads to-read shelf:

a-gentleman-in-the-street-a.rai1. A Gentleman in the Street by Alisha Rai
I saw this book on my feed a few days ago and it got quite a few good ratings. I also haven’t ventured into the Adult Erotica fiction genre yet and I wanted to try it out.

princess-knight-o.tezuka2. Princess Knight, Vol. 1 by Osamu Tezuka
This is said to be one of the first Shoujo manga out there and as I am a fan of Shoujo manga, this is definitely a must-read.

poison-study-m.v.snyder3. Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder
A prisoner who gets to choose to die or to become a food tester for a commander. How awesome does that sound? It’s also similar to the Throne of Glass series, as far as I have heard, and that is exactly my cup of tea.

ask-me-how-i-got-here-c.heppermann4. Ask Me How I Got Here by Christine Heppermann
The story of a girl who gets pregnant, decides to get an abortion and the aftermath of this decision, written in verse. I have only read books by Ellen Hopkins that were written in verse and I like this writing style. The YA contemporary fiction genre is also one of my favorites and this book sounds very intriguing.

it's-all-your-fault-p.rudnick5. It’s All Your Fault by Paul Rudnick
A night out lands the main character in jail. This sounds like a fun contemporary and I’m all for it.

how-to-train-your-dragon-c.cowell6. How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell
I have seen the animated movie a few years ago and loved it. Although I have heard that the book series is quite a bit different from the movie, I am all for a middle grade series.

devious-minds-k.f.germaine7. Devious Minds by K.F. Germaine
A new adult novel that takes place in university and is about gossip and hot guys. I love to read these books from time to time.

the-nightingale-k.hannah8. The Nightingale Kristin Hannah
I love reading historical fiction, especially in the time of WW II. This is exactly the time that it takes place in and I heard nothing but great things about this book.

the-magicians-l.grossman9. The Magicians by Lev Grossman
It seems like this is a book people either love or hate. It is said to be similar to Harry Potter, although this is an adult fiction. Maybe I get to it some time soon and can make my own opinion about it.

not-if-i-see-you-first-e.lindstrom10. Not If I See You First by Eric Lindstrom
This book sounds simply amazing! A blind girl that doesn’t want to be belittled just because she is blind. Plus a possible love story. This is right up my alley and I cannot wait to get my hands on this book.

Until next time: happy reading! πŸ™‚

Top Ten 2015 Releases I Meant To Get To But Didn’t // Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

Today’s theme is Ten 2015 Releases I Meant To Get To But Didn’t. Here are some of the books that I (sometimes even pre-ordered) wanted to get to, but unfortunately didn’t:

the-wrath-and-the-dawn-r.ahdieh uprooted-n.novik a-court-of-thorns-and-roses-s.j.maas an-ember-in-the-ashes-s.tahir more-happy-than-not-a.silvera

1. The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh
This book sounds like so much fun with this adventure and romance story and yet I didn’t get to it last year. I definitely have to read it this year; maybe even the sequel.

2. Uprooted by Naomi Novik
I really love fairy tales and this one caught my eye immediately. I want to read it so badly!

3. A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
That’s a funny one. I had this book even before it came out. I got approved for a netgalley of this book and didn’t get to read it. Then it came out and I got myself a copy and I still haven’t read it. There’s practically no excuse to not read it anymore.

4. An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir
Slaves? Soldiers? A world inspired by Ancient Rome? I really need to read it asap!

5. More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera
A story that has elements of the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind mixed in with LGBTQ+? Why haven’t I read it yet?

carry-on-r.rowell a-madness-so-discreet-m.mcginnis lair-of-dreams-l.bray stand-off-a.smith library-of-souls-r.riggs

6. Carry On by Rainbow Rowell
I wanted to re-read Fangirl before diving into this one and I knew I didn’t have the time to re-read the book and then to read Carry On. It will happen this year. Soon.

7. A Madness so Discreet by Mindy McGinnis
A historical fiction novel where the main character lives in an asylum sounds not only creepy, but like the perfect read. Have to read it very soon.

8. Lair of Dreams by Libba Bray
I got this book right when it came out because I loved the previous book in this series, but somehow I didn’t get to it yet.

9. Stand-Off by Andrew Smith
Same as the previous one. I got this book because I loved, loved, loved Winger and I still haven’t read it yet.

10. Library of Souls by Ransom Riggs
See also above. I have loved the first and second book in this trilogy and I want to know how it ends! It will be on one of my next TBR’s.

I need to find out which book to read first!

Until next time: happy reading! πŸ™‚

Wrap-Up

Number of books finished: 6
Number of pages read: 2076

What an amazing way to start the year! I have read a book a day (except for Wednesday) and completed six of the seven challenges. I didn’t get to read the book that was out of my comfort zone (Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov), but that was alright. I wasn’t feeling like reading it by the end of the week anyway. I might read it later in the month, but we’ll see about that πŸ˜‰

So overall I read quite a few books and pages and I am six books ahead with my Goodreads Challenge, which is great. Now I can read the books on my TBR and then finally (hopefully!) read some of the bigger books I am always afraid to read because they take forever to read and also because I am afraid to fall behind with my challenge for the year. I think every year should start with a read-a-thon, what do you think?

Until next time: happy reading! πŸ™‚
