Ten Books Set Outside the U.S. // Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

Today’s theme is Ten Books Set Outside the U.S.. Here are ten books that I highly enjoyed:

a_great_and_terrible_beauty_l.bray1. Gemma Doyle trilogy by Libba Bray
Set in Victorian England, this story combines proper ladies with magic, mischief and friendship. I have loved reading this trilogy and it is to this day one of my favourites.

ketchup-clouds-a.pitcher2. Ketchup Clouds by Annabel Pitcher
I feel like this is a hidden gem that is not talked about much. A girl, living somewhere in the U.K., has a dark secret and starts writing letters to man on Death Row in Texas.

tomorrow_when_the_war_began_j.marsden3. Tomorrow, When the War Began by John Marsden
A popular series set in Australia. Unfortunately I have only read the first book. What I can say about it is this: a group of friends go camping, when they come back to civilisation, they notice how their family and friends are gone; their country seems to be under attack and it’s their mission to find out what happened and save the ones they love.

just_one_day_g.forman4. Just One Day by Gayle Forman
A book for the one with wanderlust. This book takes places in several countries in Europe as well as in the U.S.; I have loved reading about this trip and about this love story.

the_book_thief_m_zusak5. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
One of the most heart-wrenching and truly beautiful stories I have ever read about World War II. The story is told by Death; the characters are amazing; the writing is phenomenal.

sailor-moon-n.takeuchi6. Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon by Naoko Takeuchi
I have loved Sailor Moon since first grade and to this day it is one of my favorite manga of all time. It’s the manga series that shaped my future reading regarding manga. A holy grail, I might say.

solitaire-a.oseman7. Solitaire by Alice Oseman
I have read quite a lot of YA contemporaries, but not one book has come even close to this perfect depiction of young adults today. Tumblr, movies, first loves; everything is covered and everything is on point.

wolf_by_wolf_r.graudin8. Wolf by Wolf by Ryan Graudin
Another book that is set in an alternative universe, shortly after World War II has ended. The Nazis have won and Yael, a shapeshifter, wants to kill Adolf Hitler. To get close to him she needs to participate in a highly acclaimed motorcycle race.

1984-g.orwell9. 1984 by George Orwell
A classic dystopian which deserves all of the credit it gets. I loved the story itself, the world building was definitely creepy and writing was impeccable!

isla_and_the_happily_ever_after_s.perkins10. Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins
This is my favorite book out of the companion trilogy. Although it is set partly in the U.S., it also takes place in France. Isla is adorable, Josh even more so!
